Güiza Ready To Delight The Turks

Daniel Güiza officially became a Fenerbahçe player on Monday after passing his medical and was presented to the media at the Sükrü Saraçoglu Stadium.

Güiza arrived in Istanbul on Monday to complete his signing for Turkish giants Fenerbahçe. After successfully undergoing all the essential medical examinations, the player was ushered to the club’s press-room, where he officially signed on the dotted line before posing for photographers in his new colours and uttering a few words.

After netting 27 goals for Mallorca last season in La Liga, a tally that saw him bag the Pichichi trophy, there is a sense of expectation on the 27-year-old to perform for his new club. And the €15 million price tag, the most expensive signing in the history of Turkish football, will undoubtedly only double the burden on the Cádiz native.

But the hot-shot striker was quick to play down the pressure as he outlined his ambitions to his new legion of fans: “There is no pressure. When you arrive at a new club, all you have to do is work hard and score a lot of goals. That is the only thing I will be focusing on and hopefully, I’ll be able to exceed the number of goals I scored last season.”

He added, “I have a feeling the Fenerbahçe fans will see a lot of my ‘bowman’ celebrations,” referring to his archery-styled goal celebrations.

Finally, Güiza – who will don the number 14 jersey – thanked the club president for bringing him to the Istanbul giants and said that he is looking forward to re-establishing his working relationship with Luis Aragonés, the Euro 2008-winning ex-Spain coach.
